Who is the Ombudsman?

The Ombudsman is responsible for the investigation and determination of disputes involving participants and their customers.

The powers and duties of the Ombudsman can be found in the Scheme's Terms of Reference

To ensure independence, the Ombudsman cannot:

be an employee of, or hold any office in, a Scheme participant;
hold any other office under the Scheme; or
either personally or through their firm, act in a professional capacity for the Scheme.

The current Ombudsman is Jan Taylor; a short biography follows.


Jan Taylor, FCDRS Ombudsman

Jan Taylor is an Arts graduate of the University of Queensland (Economics and Government), and a Law graduate of the Queensland University of Technology. She is a Member of the Australian Institute of Directors, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management, and a Trustee of the Committee for the Economic Development of Australia (CEDA).

Jan was formerly Queensland's Commissioner for Consumer Affairs, had a long involvement with preparatory work on the Uniform Consumer Credit Code of Conduct, and is the author of a consumer education textbook. She now operates a specialist community consultation firm and is an active non-executive director.
